About

Thanks for visiting Simply Gretchen!

Simply Gretchen, originally Pearls and Squirrels, was created after my husband, then fiance, helped coin a new name that would sum up all my passions. I love crafting, organizing, watching movies, exploring local restaurants, trying new fitness regimes, running, sewing, cooking, baking, and so much more.

Originally from Virginia, my husband, Clay, and I now live in Orlando, Florida.  Clay was born in Virginia, then lived all over the world as a Navy brat. I was born and raised within a hours drive. Having never flown the coupe, besides college two hours away, moving to Orlando has been an adventure. We're enjoying getting to know the local area and exploring a different chapter of American history.

I graduated from Mary Baldwin College, an all women's college in Staunton, VA. While in college, I was a member of the Virginia Women's Institute for Leadership (VWIL), the only all female corps of cadets in the nation. I played on the varsity tennis team and served on numerous leadership committees. The all-women's college experience provided a unique platform for learning and developing as a young woman in today's society. I choose not to pursue a career in the military, but have several friends currently serving.

My husband, Clay, graduated from Hampden Sydney College in Farmville, VA, where he played football. I always joke, that we are the perfect 1950s couple, having both attended single sex colleges and met because of a joined mixer.

Clay and I both come from amazing families. They have such an awesome impact on us both, and we're so grateful they are accepting of the other. Though both are so far away, we love spending time visiting them and hope to one day live closer.

No plans to expand our family anytime soon, unless you count a possible four legged addition :)

Much love to all,
Gretchen
